Chronology

01.05.2025 Two new tram routes have been introduced today – No. 14, which connects Iļģuciems with Ķengarags, and No. 8, which runs on the route "Mīlgrāvis–Tapešu iela". Changes have also been made to other tram routes.
16.04.2025 In order to create new tram route connections and develop the public transport network, from May 1st, “Rīgas satiksme” will open a new tram route No. 14, which will connect Iļģuciems with Ķengarags. Meanwhile, the current tram route 2 will be extended to Mīlgrāvis and will henceforth run with a new number – No. 8 – on the route “Mīlgrāvis – Tapešu iela”. On weekends, some trips will be organized on the section “Stacijas laukums – Tapešu iela” and marked with route number 8a. There will also be other changes to several existing routes.
28.02.2024 With the end of the reconstruction works of tram tracks and stop platforms, from February 28, tram route 5 will be restored on the main route "Iļguciems — Mīlgrāvis", while bus route 5T will be closed.

At the moment, the old trams will run on the route, in parallel work is being done on modeling new routes, so that when the construction works on the 7th tram route and the section of Slokas Street from Kalnciema Street to Jūrmala Street are completed, low-floor trams will run on the renovated section of the 5th Tram Route
