Thanks, Mike. I hope administration will take your corrections on the account. Sorry, but this is the only photo of this place I have.

A couple of corrections:

1. The intersection is Vaughan Road and St. Clair Avenue West.
2. Vaughan is pronounced "Вон" (slightly longer 'o') and not "Воган".

> Появился 510К? Раньше вроде не было. А 501К есть?

510K is not (and has never been) official designation for the Spadina Station to King branch. Prior to January 2016 streetcar routes didn't have lettered branches. On 510 Spadina route destination signs were "510 King", "510 Queens Quay", "510 Union Station" for southbound and all streetcars heading north were signed "510 Spadina Station". Starting in January 2016 streetcar routes began to have lettered branches because new low floor streetcars had electronic destination signs.

Starting Jan 3, 2016 "510 Union Station" became "510A Union Station", Queens Quay branch became 510B, King became 510C. All northbound cars are signed "510 Spadina Station".

501 Currently operates 2 branches 501A Neville Park - Humber Loop and 501C Long Branch - Neville Park

> Или эт система была придумана тогда, когда работали старые трамваи со входом только через переднюю дверь? (в смысле что на подземной станции не надо было платить водителю при входе

Prior to introduction of Presto electronic fare card and arrival of new low-floor streetcars, fare boxes were installed on all surface vehicles and passengers on stops outside of terminals at subway stations entered through front door only. They paid with cash/tickets or tokens and received a paper transfer (which was your proof-of-payment). Transfer allowed them to transfer for free to a different bus/streetcar as long as you were continuing to travel in the same direction (for example north and west). One could not use a transfer to get back on to the same route in the same direction (no stopovers) or to travel backwards. At subway stations there were manned entrances with fareboxes and tourniquets where you could use tokens (and monthly passes) and there were transfer machines where one could get a transfer so that one would have proof-of-payment (and the transfer could then be used on surface routes if one need multiple transfers for the trip). At most stations there are bus terminals which are located in the fare-paid area meaning that as long as you arrived by subway or paid your fare when you entered the station you could board the buses through any door and didn't need to show any proof of payment. At a few stations where the bus terminals were not in fare-paid area passengers boarded buses through the front door and needed to pay or present a transfer.

Since the introduction of new streetcars, they no longer have fareboxes so the only way to pay on them is using Presto electronic fare card. In fact tickets and tokens will be phased out in 2025 entirely. One would still be able to pay with cash on buses and in subway.

Since introduction of Presto, all surface vehicles now allow for boarding through all doors and you are suppose to scan your card on a a reader each time you board a bus/streetcar. No one does that at subway bus terminals, but on other surface stops its a requirement. There are also now fare inspectors that board buses/streetcars with card readers to make sure fare has been paid. Starting July 1, 1990 there was one streetcar route, 501 Queen, that had all door boarding and proof of payment system with fare inspectors. This was done to improve reliability of service as one-door boarding severely delayed the route.

The signs are for cars (nothing to do with streetcars). At this intersection left turns (from Queen St westbound to Spadina southbound) for cars are prohibited Monday-Friday 7-10 a.m. and 3-7 p.m.. At those times the signs light up and are easier from drivers to see than the overhead sign hanging by the traffic light. The city has been installing these light-up signs at various intersections over the last couple of years.

If you zoom in on it in Google Maps you will see it's a sign prohibiting left turns.

> То есть в Торонто вход в метро через Турникеты и трамвай завозит уже в "затурникетную" зону?

Yes. :)

At Dundas West, Broadview, St. Clair, Main St. stations boarding (on/off) for streetcars is in fare-paid area above ground. At Spadina, Union, St. Clair West stations the platforms are underground. From there you can transfer directly into the subway without paying again or transfer to buses that end at those stations (not at Union, but at all others).

In general most subways stations have bus platforms for connecting routes in the fare-paid area of the stations.

Please mark this streetcar as inactive. It was damaged in a downed overhead incident on December 30, 2022 and has been out of service since then.

Yes, all stops on buses and streetcar routes are by request. All buses still have the pull cords, but the new low floor streetcar only have buttons for stop request.

Bus and streetcar routes always had names. Bus routes got numbers in 1956-57, streetcars in 1980 with introduction of CLRVs.
