Good old #236. I guess I rode on it when I was a schoolboy.

"Have been", of course.
This was a typewritten response, no word processor here!
So, a "typo", I feel, not deficient English.

The Depot shots are all at Glengowrie depot, which opened in 1986. Angas Street depot closed at the same time.

I've confirmed the date - the Thursday was 3 June.
Historical weather data confirms a nice day. July 8 was cloudier.
Ah, the internet.

#1041 was a prototype for new cars after many years of thwarted investment. It was built in 1973, based on a Gothenburg design, and used the running gear from PCC equipped #980, which had entered service in 1950. While #1041 was unsuccessful for various reasons, a change of heart in Melbourne followed, with 100 Z1 cars delivered from 1975. The rest is history.

Geographical good fortune. The role of travellers was identified early. It's easy to quarantine when almost all arrive by air. Most "local" cases have been a result of breaches in quarantine. But it's not over here yet: hand hygiene, social distancing and warm fresh air are acknowleged, though compliance remains variable............

But not a typical day in "Windy Wellington" - note the windsock.......

This was an enthusiasts' [AETA - Australian Electric Traction Association] trip, and I recall conversations about it. This was an Easter Monday charter run out to Carina [8C], Seven Hills [8A], and then Cavendish Road [25]. The turn from Stanley Street into Cavendish Road was not wired, and the bus had no batteries, hence the "Armstrong technique" was deployed..............
Yes, "the push' was planned in advance.

The Wellington idiots who shut down this system are still carrying on about the virtues of the electric bus fleet that they say they want to have, forgetting that they actually had such a fleet..............

Nice shot. But I can't see myself in the crowd......
I used to catch a route 24 trolleybus to school from under the Waltons neon sign. But the shot is post-1963. The 8 "Phoenix" trams [547 - 554] were built "out of the ashes" of the Paddington depot fire, in about 1963. The "Yellow" taxi [in fact, orange] is an HR Holden - therefore, the photo is post 1966.
The Brisbane system [always immaculately maintained] would close in about three years, in 1968 - 1969, and is still missed.

This letter from the Johannesburg Transport Department gives details of seven prototypes trolleybuses to be trialled in 1981 and beyond. They include a number of double deck vehicles, which were likely the last double deck trolleybuses in the world to see revenue service. Regrettably, the Johannesburg system survived only a few more years.
