Анджу — Троллейбусные линии и инфраструктура
  АнджуТроллейбусные линии и инфраструктура
It would appear from this image, that the line passing by the city park is actually a one way loop around it.
Poles are visible in the lower right.

Great find, many thanks for the photo! The routing of the segment through the city center was always unclear. It was known that trolleybuses operated through the main square and on the north side of the park (pictured, upfront). But the trolleybus depot was located on the south side of the park (behind buildings in the background, beyond the park in this photo).

It is now clear that Sinanju-bound trolleybuses operated via the one-way line to the north of the park (upfront), and trolleybuses operating from Sinanju went via the one-way line to the south of the park (background).

Following suspension of the long north-eastern branch over the bridge to the Chemical Plant in about 2000, only the Sinanju-Anju half of the network remained for sometime. Hence the line around the park became a loop - this is how trolleybuses turned around in Anju.

I've updated the map accordingly:
http://goo.gl/maps/x2ijc

Unfortunately, it looks like now the entire operations is suspended.

http://goo.gl/maps/x2ijc

К сожалению, похоже, что сейчас работа троллейбуса в Анджу полностью приостановлена.

Hello Yury, I have an image that I'm unsure of https://img1.daumcdn.net/thumb/R1280x0/?...70D260F from this website https://blog.daum.net/kwon.m.ki/1339?category=3885
This image is allegedly Kaesong (which depending on the source either had an incomplete trolleybus system or a dismantled one) but I'm not sure it can be matched by map to Kaesong. Where do you think this actually is?

This is Wonsan. The location is marked on the map under the following photo:

The buildings' structure and even color are best visible in 05.2015 Google Earth Pro photo. There was no island in the middle of the square before 06.2015.

by accident I found a video of this area a few months ago, the wires on the bridge are clearly gone, but the wires are present between Sinanju and Anju. My only problem is that when the bus turns at 26:00, there are no wires going around the park. The southbound wire turns, actually. Either the system was converted to a two way line, or it never went one-way through Anju.

With the wires on the other side of the park, it seems it clearly used to be existing with poles that look like the ones in the Manpo photo here (like these https://transphoto.org/photo/1416595/); shame they weren't seated opposite in the bus, then they would've captured the depot.
I find it odd for what seemingly is a one way loop has poles on both sides.
As the section to Namhung Youth Chemical Complex closed in 2000, they had slowly removed some poles, though by satellite imagery in the industrial area itself some still exists.
Maybe the minibuses in that video replaced the trolleybus

Nevertheless, a one-way southbound-only line is clearly visible in this photo from 2006, including support beams, while no overhead support poles are visible on the other side of the street. Thus the one-way loop (or simply one-way lines on each side of the park for through service) clearly existed before. It looks like by 2018 when the video was shot, the operation was cut back to the Anju, Depot - Sinanju segment with trolleybuses turning around at the Depot. This would explain the wiring visible in the video around 26:00.

It might be a leftover of some previous arrangement. Or most likely some unrealized plans, since within the main square itself the poles are on one side of the road only. Say, trolleybuses used to operate via the main square and the northern side of the park in both directions in early years, before the depot was built on the south side of the park.

https://www.qsl.net/ah6hy/haeju.html

what about these ones?

They claim to be Haeju, I have a 2019 video of one of the two main roads in that city, but the pictures don't seem to match where the route would be in Haeju.

I too, saw that website, but under another discussion, it turns out it is not from there. Instead from Sariwon city - check the photos under that city and there is a extreme resemblance.
Now, if there was one, it was likely removes in the 90s but I have doubts it existed at all. Bus traffic is very developed in that city.

Ah yes, I see. The footage from Sariwon at street level matches. (It seems to happen on a few occasions that people put the wrong spot..) One thing I have noticed is that buildings are repainted quite often in the DPRK, maybe every 4 or 5 years! So it can make matching pictures confusing sometimes

How dissapointing about Haeju.. I'll just put everything I found
https://m.bilibili.com/video/BV1uV411175...ocard.0

A video of the entire northern road disproving a trolleybus in 2019, previous pictures from 2008-2010 of the central square are numerous and also don't show any wires on the northern road (there are only 2 plausible roads)

The last hope seems to be, like you said, an abandoned system. https://bit.ly/3fpZUjN I am not good enough to pinpoint where this stop is but the photo is from around 2010. Is the pole of the kind that might have carried trolleywire at somepoint? or is it just for posters? I suspect that sort of photo is the best chance to prove or disprove if the system ever existed in the first place.

I would love for it to have a trolleybus system but it is most likely for posters as I believe. The only identifiable structure that I see is a turning loop for blue and green buses on the western end of the main road from 2018. Interestingly, there are photos from Kaesong that shows some kind of bracket mount. Also, I must ask, have you found any videos from Tokchon to prove or disprove a system? I found no videos and the closest photo looks more like a transmission line.

I believe there is a high chance of a trolleybus in Kapsan and Sudong (Kowon coal mine). The south Korean survey team said both of these coal mines have a trolleybus. They say 3,9km in Kapsan (Tongjom-rodongjagu). I see some poles on one side of road in Tongjom, but the satellite image for Sudong is too poor to judge.
Similarly, I believe there is a small chance of a trolleybus in Ryongdung-rodongjagu to Ryongdung coal mine, though again the satellite imagery is too poor and videos shot by dprktoday.com do not show the actual streets in clarity, but the satellite images do clearly show poles over a small bridge.
The cities that I feel absolutely do not have a trolleybus are Hyesan, Rason (nor when it was only Rajin and Unggi), Unhung (which is next to Hyesan) and Songrim. I also think its unlikely for there to be a network in Kusong. I am certain that Hyesan has a good bus network, but no trolleybuses. The only 'depot' visible in satellite imagery is a bus depot, although some buses have dirty roofs that might look like the poles of a trolleybus.
Maybe Ryongdae had a line to the coal mine at some point, there were once tracks in snow near train station in satellite image but it definitely does not exist anymore, if at all.

I do have doubts on some online lists of trolleybus systems; they listed Manpo years before it was built and satellite imagery shows no poles before 2019. All of them similarly have the same misspelling of Kumgol-dong as "Kimkol". Some lists say this 'Markyn-Kimol-Chognyon' which is impossible place name for Korea, and I don't know what the other two are.
Although in this photo of Yonsan, Holdong-rodongjagu [http://www.cybernk.net/EV_CyberNKFile/im...002.jpg] the overhead is maybe a transmission line as Yury pointed out, I feel it still could be an unfinished project at least (only the suspension cable for overhead installed), since the poles bear a strong resemblance to the ones used in Sangwon and Onsong, both bidirectional one way lines ie. tall pole with a line connecting the top of the pole to the metal bar that sticks out. Of course I could be completely wrong, it could be an electric power line, but I have not seen one in north Korea that uses poles like the trolleybus poles. In this photo, [http://www.cybernk.net/EV_CyberNKFile/im...003.jpg] the cables seem too low, but there are no connections to the building, as would be expected for a transmission cable, and here is another image of the cables[http://www.cybernk.net/EV_CyberNKFile/im...005.jpg]. This photo [http://www.cybernk.net/EV_CyberNKFile/im...004.jpg] seems to show a similar poles in front of the Holdong House of Culture.
Finally, do you have a video of Sunchon, its thought there might be a trolleybus there.
Thanks for your compilation of videos.

In regards to tokchon there are very few pictures at all, so I can't be that helpful. However, Sunchon happens to be on the main railway line between the east and west coasts, ensuring some minimum level of pictures from the train.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/21005841@N04/15378595393/ This picture seems to show a lack of wires over the bridge that crosses the taedong river.

https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lkyKYgT5WD8/X.../21.jpg From a chemical plant opening photos, 2019. The roads close to the main station are visible but blurry.

https://youtu.be/hGHS8YMrM2k A video taken from the other side of the train station, indicating no wires.

I also have found a segment of a video near silyeonpo https://youtu.be/i7cbNaVVlRU?t=376 but it's ultimately not very useful.

All of this seems to strongly suggest against a system in Sunchon, unless it somehow weaves a path that avoids all of these spots (or was abandoned, again..)

I agree that the source you used to find the pictures of the systems in other mining towns is generally trustworthy, hopefully those ones can be found... I will look again when I have time. I agree that Rason doesn't have a system, Hyesan likely doesn't (maybe it will have a new one like Manpo), Songrim has https://dimg.donga.com/wps/NEWS/IMAGE/20...5.2.jpg this picture which indicates no wires on the main road, and there are quite a few pictures of the industrial areas, none of which I have seen that indicate a trolleybus.

Chongnyon means Youth 청년, (like the youth hotel in pyongyang) I see it in many names and signs in north korea. I am not sure about Markyn.

I've updated the map with both spots (Sunchon and Yonsan) https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid...34&z=16

One important clue is that between 2016 and 2017 on google earth it appears that the area in front of the house of culture was rebuilt, and that the trolley poles were not reinstalled. For 30 meters or so to the east, along the roadway, poles were clearly visible in the old satellite imagery, and not in the newer one. Also in this place https://www.google.com/maps/@38.8664166,...3m1!1e3 there were poles before 2016. So, my takeaway is that it definitely existed, but was abandoned (why would they randomly take the transmission lines down)

If you ever have any other photos I will try to pinpoint them, No problem.

I believe the only transport in Hyesan city (maybe somewhere in coal mine there is something...) are buses: http://cybernk.net/common/ImgPopup2.aspx...irect=1
41.428470669963765, 128.23754424407215 is the only depot that I see in Hyesan and is only buses.
Also, looking at Kimchaek on satellite, it shows that in 2009, 6 trolleybu; 2011, 5 trolleybus; 2012, 2 trolleybus until 2017/8 then removed, suspended from 2012 - 2018/9 then two vehicles appear later 2019.

I think I found a new system, in Sinhung

https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1...sharing

There are no photos of it on cybernet, presumably because those are only taken in Sinhung-up (the town), and not the worker's district, which is where this seems to pass through. I looked for photos, but came up short. Hopefully this one is convincing enough just with the aerial imagery, the same way some previous systems were found. I think it's basically impossible to write it off. Though, no pictures, seemingly no trolleybuses...

Do you guys agree?

Trolleybus loop at that spot, 4/2019 google earth shows a bus, and 2014 earth imagery shows the poles clearly enough..

I suspect there may be something to do with these workers' districts.

Also, for Sinhung, the clearest imagery is 2/2020. It is what allowed me to be confident about the eastern terminus, the poles are visible in the loop and not any further.

Maybe worker's districts are prioritised to receivepublic transport but during the arduous march, most of them sold the vehicles / wiring for scrap.
But here, the network seems to go to the main street but there is no poles on it : http://www.cybernk.net/common/ImgPopup2....irect=1
Maybe it was built after 1991 when it was around the time taken
Maybe it was even an unfinished project; this pole looks like it could have been part of it : http://www.cybernk.net/common/ImgPopup2....irect=1 you can see another pole behindit too, without anything on it
It's very odd that it has a covered depot. The type of pole appears universal however and could just be electricity mount

Excellent find, many thanks. Yes, there are consistent poles and two loops clearly visible. The line is most likely bidirectional single overhead set like Sangwŏn and Onsong. What impresses me the most, however, that there is a clear passing point located right in the middle of the line at the following location (better visible in Google Earth images from the past):
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Sinhun....413597
Moreover, the passing point was not there before, and was installed between 2013-2017. This could be a sign of some kind of operation for which capacity issues had to be resolved. Also of note, that the trolleybus line passes through a checkpoint upon entering the North-Eastern development, which seems to be closed off from the rest of the world.

Clearly a suspect. The line is only 1,3 km. long but goes to some kind of mausoleum or dedicated grounds. So it probably exists just for the show. A square right before the entry to the grounds suggests a second loop.

Well.. for the first one http://www.cybernk.net/common/ImgPopup2....irect=1

Somewhere around 40.61364210107241, 126.46466202295255 looking north along the main road. In 2004 on google earth, the area to the right was a green patch, and the buildings match the one just after the green area, and the one 1 before it.

For the second one, I think 40.61232139163088, 126.46639659109397
Basically, the 3 trees are visible in 2004 google earth, the picture is looking southeast, just missing the railroad station.

These spots match with the hills in the back, and with the website itself. Again, the images are from Junchon-up (전천읍), and not the worker's district (probably something rodongjagu) In that website, the R sound is often badly transcribed as a neutral or N sound (like in pyongyang it's always written as Yeonmotdong or Yeonseong instead of Ryonmotdong and Ryonsong, Rakrang is written as Nakrang). So, it is actually written as nodongjagu 노동자구. It might be that the south koreans had trouble understanding perfectly, I don't know exactly why though.

This is very odd. On many Wikipedia articles, it has both spellings in lists of administrative divisions.
.

The loop at Jonchon is located in Hakmu worker's district. But I'm not sure where it ends? About 1.3 kilometres away is the February 8 general machine plant. The same complex also manufactures transport erector launchers (for missiles).
In Sinhung, it leads to the local machine factory and the local revolutionary history museum. The tank factory is also in that county somewhere else

Now it makes sense; if both of these are the 'general machine plants' I suppose the southerners would simply be not allowed to survey the district unlike the mines.

Regarding other counties with known systems but no visible vehicles, I have a theory, that Kapsan and Onsong closed in 1994 not opened, unlike what Wikipedia says, especially as the Kapsan mine allegedly ran out in the 90 s.

This network is almost certainly out of service, unfortunately. The yellow on both loops are wheat crops being dried (on both recent satellite images), completely blocking any way possible for the trolley bus to turn.

In Jonchon, hopefully it is just parked away.

I believe that the T junction in Kapsan (Tongjom) is the terminus but I am not certain. There are poles seen in both directions to the north and east.

In Sudong, the first 2 satellite images that are basically black and white clearly show parallel poles along the small river at 126.922 39.370 Degrees. Later, they completely disappeared and there is a probable loop before the little bridge over it. Unfortunately, the best image is also partially blocked by clouds, making it tell where the other loop is (maybe at the railway station.)

Admittedly, it doesn't show a ton of movement, and the last time any trolleybuses are seen at all is 2017. Though, like other systems across the country, it isn't unheard of to take a line out of service for some time.

The Kapsan one is annoying because the distance and satellite seem to say the line goes/went from the T to the top of the hill, but nothing suggests it.

Yet it doesn't seem possible for trolleys to turn at either end of the village. At the base of the hill to the east, there are two poles and a small clearing.

I guess my point is that it's too constrained. It's easy to draw a route up the mountain

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/41.06033...4m1!3e2
(A bus travelling the central road of the mining village where the miners' houses are) but neither the distances nor the poles, nor available turnarounds seem satisfactory in my opinion. The road between Kapsan-up and the mining village has similar looking poles, for example.

I don't think it's possible to prove without better satellite imagery, or some image. Both of which are difficult to obtain.

Sinhung looks like the operations were infrequent up to trolleybuses being removed. Between 2013 and 2017, a trolleybus drives into the depot but never moves again, until all 3 are removed after 2017 and before 2020. The two other trolleybuses have not moved at least before October 2013. It is very likely that services were irregular because wheat is seen drying on the south loop at least since 2008.

I think it is possible that the line in Hakmu district runs further; a vehicle is seen within the gated area twice and I see no poles in the square.

There is a video of Sinhung here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgCboUTuAw8
At past 5 minutes, you see distinctive trolleybus poles at the south loop. Trucks are carrying passengers. While the video doesn't show the overhead, it is obviously not the electricity poles earlier in the video and must be a trolleybus pole.

excellent find! unfortunately; it is pointing the wrong way, as the poles stretch from the eastern side of the roadway, otherwise we might have seen the southern terminus.

Also, I'm still open to the possibility that there is no system in Jonchon, the satellite images raise more questions than they answer (maybe similar information to kowon mine, with 1 probably terminus only)

I do understand it is the wrong way, but the distinctive poles are seen on that side of the road. Within Sinhung-up electricity is carried on wood poles, it is very likely that the 2 poles are trolleybus poles with their different concrete construction. It can't 100% confirm it, but makes it significantly more likely to be a trolleybus.

I found no videos or photos from state media about Jonchon. Of course, the former system in Kumgol did not really have a visible loop at the train station either. So it could exist and there is probably secrecy around the plant because of its military manufacture.

I tried to draw the line at Sudong :https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1...sharing
unfortunately, the definite section is only 800 meters long and given the date (2011) other parts may already be partially dismantled. Logically, it should run to the coal mine but there are only few poles on the side of the road there...
