Comments to the photos from Northeastern Massachussetts (tramway)

If you can try to read the sign on the left side it may be an indication: I have no information about the source of the photo, I got it as a gift and had to identify it completely out of context.

Why are there so many children in the photo? Was there some kind of holiday?

It appears to be a Haverhill & Southern N. H. St. Ry. car, later the system was taken over by the Massachusetts Northeastern.

A rare and very interesting picture. None of those open cars have survived, to my understanding, but the Seashore has a body of a closed one, #50, from the post-1913 system.
