For the many superfluous new trams in Madrid, solutions were found in Spain itself, other trams were sold on the other side of the world, like here in Adelaide. In Adelaide, they were put into service in the Madrid colours.

They are much similar to Alstom Citadi in Jerusalem, but those in Jerusalem are ugly grey.

The trams in Jerusalem were bought new.
It is not really clear to me whether Alstom had excellent salespeople or Madrid had bad calculators. The fact is that there were far too many trams, and potential buyers of these surplus new trams were sought almost immediately after the delivery.
