Centenaire / Champeau

A special photo for two reasons.

1. The line was more or less ready in rough construction, but was never finished here. For 40 years, both nature and vandals had their way.

2. It is now finally being cleaned up, with the intention of finishing this line and also using it.

The complete dark station, where everything was vandalised. This station was 100% finished and ready to be inaugurated... in 1985.

Work is now in progress: compare with the photo of the same location a few months ago.

To create this photo, a tram was chosen with the driver's post B in front, so that the pantograph was at the back of the tram. The tram had to use the last few centimetres of the overhead line to fully exit the tunnel...

Some things have happened in recent years. The second track has been cleared, which was not the case a few years ago. The tram, coming from Centenaire, can now use a switch to go back on the 'normal' (left) track.

The exit of the tunnel and the place where traffic changes from (normal) right to left. The official reason is that the passengers in the area are familiar with boarding buses, where the doors are on the right... Since the metro uses central platforms, the trams had to go on the left...

It is now too late to visit the unused metro branch on your own. Not only security is present, but an alarm system has also been installed beyond the Waterloo station. It reacts to any movement. To be clear: I had permission to go there.

Shortly before, the station was visited by a local minister. All the rubbish was cleared away and the floor was also cleaned up, but otherwise it was clear that a lot of work will be needed to get the station back into an orderly condition.

Station Pensée

The light rail line to Chatelet was finished and the inauguration was planned in 1985, but this was postponed in extremis. The line has never been used for commercial service due to high operating costs and there are no plans to do so in the future. Occasionally the line is used for test drives or journeys for tram enthousiasts.

Quai Arthur Rimbaud

Some plans were initiated but were prematurely and permanently abandoned. One was the construction of a metro right through the city: although a school building was in the way, they managed to build a tunnel right through it. The photo is maybe old, but this is of course still visible today...

Station Chet

The whole line was built in a deprived area. At one time, there were many coal mines here, but they have all been closed since long. The hill is a former mine site. This line was built long after the closure of the coal mines and there is not much to do here. The point of this station is totally beyond me...
