I do not know if this really helps. They did not respond via social media and the phone was not answered, although this happened during normal local American hours.
However, I was pleasantly surprised by the very beautiful and interesting collection, which is also in good condition. The park is also worth a visit. So, the result is very good, the potential too, but also on site I had the feeling that they were not very motivated.
In any case: this is also a very beautifull and interesting tram!

I understand you only get the Birney 143 on the short line through 'Main St' on the day your visit. The museum actually operates two lines, but this depends on staffing by volunteers. Whenever two volunteers are available, they operate the inner 'Main St' line (pictured) and the outer line along Senter Rd to the parking lots. Whenever only one volunteer shows up for work they operate the 'Main St' line only. The latter was the case on the day of my visit on July 3rd. However, a day earlier on July 2nd they did operate both lines with 143 (Main St) and 124 (Senter Rd).

Unfortunately the historic cars are only operated on Saturdays and Sundays for 3 hours only between 12 noon and 3:15 pm.

The 3 historic cars that used to run in San Jose's downtown via a segment of the Light Rail line - are now stored at the VTA yard, unavailable for visits or viewing. The VTA management and the people in charge are not fans of the cars and just not interested even in allowing access to the cars. The 4th car was sold to Sacramento (for a lot of money), where it was never operated, and where it is now... stored at the yard, unavailable for visits or viewing. So much for local history...

I understand you didn't get 'lucky' either. I was at this museum on July 3rd, and this car was not operated either. It was, however, operated a day earlier on July 2nd. I will probably give the museum advanced notice with a request and a special donation next time I visit...

From what I was told by the locals this car needs a few fixes, but is viable.

Streetcar and interurban lines in 1915, likely a recent drawing. The berryessa line doesn't have a wiggle, it had a straight ROW. However, the interesting part is the Los Altos branch. Double-tracked to Congress Junction. This means that between Vasona and Congress junctions, interurban service is proven false. One track only, must be unelectrified to let SP trains run on the leased track.

It also indicates that the Peninsular Railway electrified the western track from monta vista to Congress Junction (the 1930s aerial imagery also strongly suggests this, because there is a junction track pointing this way). This is corroborated with other sources. The bascome tracks are already double tracked, so the bascome local service already existed. Naglee local is not yet complete.

For anyone new to this mystery, the black is "tracks owned by the Peninsular railway". However, the Los Altos branch (mayfield cutoff from Vasona junction to mayfield) was built by the peninsular, as a guise to run steam trains by Southern Pacific. So the eastern track was unelectrified and 'leased' to SP for service, to circumvent regulations. I added the details in the Chronology.

But what is the oldest OPERATING tram in the world? It looks like the former San Francisco horse car 7 built by John Stephenson Co. in 1863, nowadays located at the San Jose History Park museum - is the prime contender. This car is regularly operated for special events. Here is the photo of the car 7 in operation under horse power on 19.06.2016:

Остаётся вопрос - какой самый старый ДЕЙСТВУЮЩИЙ вагон в мире? Судя по всему, призёром является бывший вагон конки номер 7 из Сан-Франциско, построенный в 1863 г. компанией John Stephenson Co.
