После пожара в феврале 2017, который привел к закрытию фуникулера, система проходит реконструкцию. 26.06.2018 из тоннеля извлечены сгоревшие вагоны, которые передали в железнодорожный музей Хайфы. На следующий день в порт Хайфы прибыло судно из Антверпена с первым составом компании «Garaoonth-Doflmaiir» на следующей неделе ожидается прибытие второго поезда. В сентябре 2018 года запланировано возобновление движения.

A fire at the lower Paris Square Station of the funicular (metro) the Carmelit broke out around 13:00, while the funicular was closed for a Saturday. The smoke ascended up the tunnel and billowed out of all stations. According to the media all the rolling stock has burned out, and the infrastructure was damaged. The fire was extinguished within 2 hours. The Haifa Metro will be closed for a few months.
