Město, jež se dočkalo značného stavebního rozmachu v 50. letech 20. století, kdy započala masivní výstavba sídlištních celků.
Po útlumu těžby uranu se nové domy staly mj. bydlením pro zaměstnance k.p. ŠKODA Plzeň, závod Ostrov, který byl monopolní výrobce trolejbusů pro ČSSR
a významný exportér do zemí především východní Evropy. Výšková budova na spodním snímku pak sloužila ostrovskému závodu ŠKODA jako jedno z kancelářských zázemí,
(na průčelí budovy je první shora patrný typický znak tohoto podniku tzv. Indián).

The city of Ostrov that experienced a significant construction boom in the 1950s, when the massive construction of housing estates began.
After the decline of uranium mining, the new houses became, among other things, housing for employees of k.p. ŠKODA Plzeň, Ostrov plant,
which was a monopoly producer of trolleybuses for the Czechoslovakian and an important exporter to the countries of Eastern Europe in particular.
The high-rise building in the bottom picturewas used by ŠKODA Ostrov plant as one of the office facilities (the typical symbol of this company, the so-called Indian,
can be seen on the front of the building in the first position from the top).
