Where exactly?
By the way, the LVS-86s in the southern tram network are nowadays used mainly on route 49, which for the most part of it overlaps with route 25. Route 25 and the other routes of Tram Park 1 (16, 43, 45, 62) now mostly use newer moder such as LM-99AVN (known as "bees") and futuristic-looking LVS-2005 and LM-2008. Route 25 mainly uses articulated LVS-2005s.

Unfortunately I don't know; maybe someone from St Petersburg can say what it is?

Yes, there is. But unfortunately it is not easy to replace all old trams that had not been replaced for decades. That is why most tram routes outside the city centre still use old LVS-86s. However, newer (and overhauled) trams slowly but surely increase in number, which is surely a positive change.
Maybe in the near future (it is still unknown when exactly) the eastern tram network (routes 8, 10, ad 64) will be given to a private investor who is obliged to buy and use 25 five-section and three-section versions of a Belarusian-Swiss tram Stadler Metelitsa: http://transphoto.ru/photo/789245/ http://transphoto.ru/photo/783288/
But this is still not certain, especially as to when exactly this will happen.
Thank you very much for the extensive information, I read that this city once had worlds biggest tram system, which has been reduced to a big extent. It is interesting, where the future leads to!

If you mean that small round thing almost in the middle, that's the power connection socket. If such tramcar gets joined to a EMU set as a guided unit, you have to connect both tramcars through these sockets in order to transmit 550V power supply from one tramcar to another; otherwise you'd have to put _both_ pantographs up to the overhead line. Try to figure it out here: http://trams.ru/ph.php?pid=19721 http://trams.ru/ph.php?pid=3943
The thin cable that hangs between the roof edges of the two joined tramcars only transmits the electronic commands.
Just in case you're wondering what's that thing just above the «ЛВС_86» sign is, that's a handle for holding yourself while you're standing on the bumper washing the front window.
(Katinka, 17.06.2016): > This is - logo Leningrad/St. Petersburg tram factory ??
