ЛВС-86 не является прямым потомком ЛМ-68. Всё-таки и ЛМ-68, и ЛВС-86 братья, то есть потомки одного и того же трамвая, ЛВС-66.

"Aquarium" is the best tram I used ever except "Tatra-3", of course ))) because I had grown in the "Tatra-3" town. But when I had seen LM-68 ("Aquarium") in Saratov on rute number 3, I understood that this one is very excelent tram. This one is very wide, very spacious, quite comfortable. Without any annoying noises. I like very much this type of trams. May be it is quite nostalgic feeling.

Тем досаднее, что ЛМ-68 так и не попали в своё время в Барселону. А то, глядишь, сохранилась бы парочка музейных до сих пор.

The glass in the roof was probably not a good idea. In summer you may get grilled inside, too much sun and heat!
After this, trams luckily had normal roofs again. I am sure, people were not pleased with this kind of glass-box.

Concerning how rare sunny days in Leningrad / St. Petersburg are believed to occur, it definitely _was_ a good idea.
The original design featured blue glass in those upper windows exactly because of what you said. Just a few first cars of the series had them that way, and then it was suspended.

And yeah, the Barcelona version would have had dimmed blue upper glasses, for sure. ;-)

Вы будете смеяться, но это следствие слишком буквального понимания лозунга "коммунизм - это наше СВЕТЛОЕ будущее", наложившееся на общие тенденции в архитектуре того времени по повышению уровня инсоляции помещений. Ну и западные образцы туристических автобусов тоже свою роль сыграли, как образец. А про то, как лётчики мучаются в стеклянных кабинах под палящим солнцем - благополучно забыли. Или не знали.
