The turntable had not been used in revenue service since the Fall of 2009.

Не только в 2016. Автобусы выпускаются все эти годы и до сих пор в рабочие дни на укороте 683 отсюда до Gräfrath.

The explanation why this turntable is no longer used for regular traffic was given earlier.

Rather unusual (I think) is that one is apparently being built and used for trams in Dallas.

Then there are the well-known ones on San Francisco's cable car, but beyond that I don't know of any practical application of turntables in urban public transport.

Поворотный круг / поворотный стол / поворотная платформа - все термины в русском языке используются, независимо от чьего-то личного знания вопроса. Согласен, первый вариант используется чаще всего. Однако мне нравится второй вариант ввиду его исторической традиционности и наличия аналога в английском языке.

Ну, или можно использовать термин из инсотранных языков, как это делает Vanessa )
