On the 3th of May 2026 was the last day of operation for Lines: 3 – 5 – 9 and 15. Due to the closure of the oldest tunnel section between station Van Eeden, on the left bank of the river Schelde and stations Astrid and Diamant on the right bank. This 51 year old tunnel will be stript down to the concrete and completely renewed. This will take at least 11 months, during this time metro stations Van Eeden, Groenplaats and Meir are fully closed. In station Opera only the North to South line (operated by line 10) is in operation at level -3, platforms C and D. The A and B platforms on level -2 are also closed.
During this period they will also start the rebuild of station Groenplaats, new entrance, new bigger stations hall and longer and wider platforms.
On the left bank there is no tram service possible. On the right bank lines 3 and 15 are combined to line A3 from P+R Merksem to P+R Boechout, using metro stations: Sport – Schijnpoort – Handel – Elisabeth – Astrid – Diamant and Plantin. And lines 5 and 9 are combined to line A9 from Berchem station to Wijnegem using metro stations: Plantin – Diamant – Astrid – Elisabeth – Handel and Schijnpoort.
A bus shuttle P5 runs from P+R Linkeroever to Opera square, and the train station Antwerpen Linkeroever is back in operation, it was closed since 1984.

The new temporary terminus "Linkeroever". This is a temporary solution, pending the completion of the new permanent terminus further down the line. This will probably be at the beginning of 2022. Both the tracks along the route and the former terminus were so worn that a temporary new route had to be built. The old terminus will not return.
